South Carolina's #1 Crime
In a first for the state, a man spoke Tuesday at the 12th annual Silent Witness memorial, a tribute to South Carolina's victims of domestic violence held on the south lawn of the Statehouse complex.
Dale Wells, a 358-pound Columbia restaurant manager, is the sort of self-assured guy you'd think no one would mess with. Until that day when his stalker ex-girlfriend, who had threatened to kill him, put five slugs from a .357 through his back, lungs, arm and head.
In South Carolina, domestic violence is the state's "No. 1 crime," said Attorney General Henry McMaster, who sponsors the annual event.
McMaster said during Tuesday's ceremony that domestic violence was responsible for 36,000 complaints to the police last year.
Source
I have expressed my feelings on domestic violence via my Chris Brown/Rihanna post, so this post won't be lengthy. The South Carolina police received 36,000 domestic violence complaints last year. I shutter to think how many actual cases of domestic violence occurred. I am pretty sure the number is significantly higher than 36K. I'm not a pacifist, but I do believe that violence is not the answer. This belief is especially true in regards to relationships. If you feel the need to physically or emotionally assault the person you are with, you need to develop a coping mechanism, civilly discuss your issues with your partner, or end the relationship.

Ladies Will Always Get Laid
That's the conclusion of a new study by British researchers who analyzed questionnaire responses from 860 American, German and Italian students.
The students were asked to imagine being approached by a member of the opposite sex, described as either "slightly unattractive," "moderately attractive" or "exceptionally attractive." The participants were then asked what their response would be if such members of the opposite sex offered to go out, go to their apartment, and to go to bed with them. Source
This story shouldn't surprise anyone. It's a well known fact that most men will lower their standards in order to get their rocks off. I have lowered my already charitable standards once or twice. It's not something I'm proud of, but I can charge those events to youthful indiscretion right...? Thanks guys, I knew you would understand.
I am not really opposed to people having casual sex with less than attractive people. Everybody needs a little physical affection from time to time. If there are no emotional attachments between sexual partners and all parties are using protection, I think everything is all good. I cannot see myself doing anything like that at this stage in my life, but I won't knock what the next man or woman is doing. I may mentally cringe when hearing the details, but my disapproval won't be visceral.
This has been a long week for your boy. I know there are lots of important issues in the news these days, but I cannot do them justice right now. When I get more time to think about things outside of work, I will give the aforementioned issues the attention they deserve. Until then, enjoy some En Vogue. In their prime, this quintet embodied the sex appeal that very few women ever possess.

The Skinny Jeans Workout
To look at her, you'd never know Jessica Ordona, 25, has a problem with her jeans. "I don't like the fact that when you sit down, your stomach comes over them," she says.
A retail specialist with a commercial real estate firm in Bethesda, Maryland, Ordona knows image is part of success. That's why she has been diligent about hitting the gym four to five times a week. But even with all her crunches and lifting, she sometimes experienced denim frustration.
Unhappy with her former gym, Ordona decided to join a national health club chain in her neighborhood. Much to her surprise, she found a class called Skinny Jeans Workout, specifically designed to get rid of those annoying little bulges and bumps. "It's different than your typical workout class," she says. "It's not high-impact cardio, but you're sweating the whole time because you're working every muscle group."
The Skinny Jeans Workout concentrates on core muscles, balance and posture. A cross between ballet, butt-burning stretches and light weight lifting, the workout involves the entire body.

I know a number of women who exercise on a consistent basis. Most of them are in their mid to late 20s and they feel like they should be married or engaged. I can understand why they feel that way. They have a number of friends who are married and I know the more traditional segments of society are applying pressure. These reasons make me feel bad for women who put their career first or who haven't met the right person. It seems like they have to justify why they aren't on the marriage track and that isn't cool.
All the women I know hit the gym because they aim to be more attractive to potential suitors. They take the "I'm not doing this for my health" saying literally. Although I respect their source of motivation, I believe it can cause unneeded stress. I think that exercise is easier when you do it for yourself. Everyone should try to do some form of exercise two or three times a week. Americans are some of the fattest people on the planet because we typically live sedentary/unhealthy lifestyles.
"In Those Jeans" by Ginuwine is an ode to women like the beautiful Melyssa Ford who drive men crazy when they wear a pair of jeans. I love that song, but women don't have to fit into Skinny Jeans to be sexy.
Tell me is there any more room for me
In those jeans
Really thick like I like it
Tell me is there any more room for me
In those jeans

Yet Another Sex Tape Scandal...
So did you hear the one about the BMW heiress who made a sex video? Germany's wealthiest woman, who is worth $13.2 billion, was lured into an affair by a Swiss hunk. Thus began, if you'll pardon the phrase, the dirtiest game of blackmail Whac-A-Mole ever played.
Susanne Klatten, who owns 12% of the luxury car maker plus half of a pharmaceutical giant, is a fabulously wealthy, probably fabulously bored wife and mother of three. She and Helg Sgarbi, her Swiss cad, spiced up their little affair by shooting a sex video in room 630 of the Holiday Inn in Munich, Germany.
What she didn't know, says The Daily Beast, was that Sgarbi made a rich life out of seducing bored, rich women. He amassing "gifts" of €10 million from four of them.
When 47-year-old Klatten balked at his attempts to extract any more than €7 million from her, Sgarbi demanded €49 million (about $70 million) to keep their video sex romp a secret. Klatten immediately fessed up to her cuckolded husband and sent the police after her erstwhile blackmailing lover.
Source
This story was originally reported in 2008. The fact that it still has new developments is hilarious if you don't think about the effect it is having on her family. The mainstream media rarely covers stories on powerful women who cheat on their husbands. I guess this story goes to show that even women are susceptible to temptation. Klatten is a married and ridiculously rich mother of three. You would think that someone with so much to lose would be more careful when selecting a "jump off". Sadly, Klatten slipped up like Kwame Kilpatrick, Governor Mark Sanford, and thousands of powerful people before her.
Klatten was reckless when she cheated on her husband, but her gangsta style of handling those who plan to release the sex tape is second to none. She is using her power, influence, and cash to crush anyone who threatens to profit from the tape or publish it on Redtube. She is dead set on making sure she doesn't have another lapse of judgment. I seriously doubt that tape will ever see the light of day.
The Main Ingredient was right when they sang that "Everybody Plays the Fool." Klatten played the fool when she made a sex tape with man who has a history of exploiting women. The idiots who tried to use the sex tape as blackmail material are even more foolish for thinking their plans would work.
There's no exception to the rule, listen baby
It may be factual, may be cruel, I ain't lying
Everybody plays the fool

When Love Isn't Enough

Living happily ever after needn't only be for fairy tales. Australian researchers have identified what it takes to keep a couple together, and it's a lot more than just being in love. A couple's age, previous relationships and even whether they smoke or not are factors that influence whether their marriage is going to last, according to a study by researchers from the Australian National University.
The study, entitled "What's Love Got to Do With It," tracked nearly 2,500 couples -- married or living together -- from 2001 to 2007 to identify factors associated with those who remained together compared with those who divorced or separated. It found that a husband who is nine or more years older than his wife is twice as likely to get divorced, as are husbands who get married before they turn 25.
Children also influence the longevity of a marriage or relationship, with one-fifth of couples who have kids before marriage -- either from a previous relationship or in the same relationship -- having separated compared to just nine percent of couples without children born before marriage.
This article didn't provide me with any mind boggling statistics, but it did reaffirm a few of my beliefs. I'm not even close to being a love expert, but I do have a solid understanding of what it takes to make a relationship work. Love, trust, and a shared value system are at the foundation of almost every healthy relationship. Relationships that are not built on the aforementioned entities are destined to fail. It saddens me to see couples stay together because of "convenience" or because the two people involved don't want to go through the "hassle" of meeting someone new. I understand that dating can be frustrating, but true love is one of the greatest things in the world. I think the journey one has to take to attain it is well worth the trouble.
I have only been in one long term relationship and I have never been married. I have broken my fair share of hearts and Karma has returned the favor more times than I care to admit. Nevertheless, I still believe in the enigmatic entity we call love. This belief, however, does not compel me to view the women I date with rose-tinted glasses. I am too much of a realest to stay with someone for cosmetic reasons. Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" is one of the most well-written love songs of all time. It really captures the sentiments of people who feel that love is slipping away.
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me, if you don't

The Untimely Passing of Steve McNair
Married ex-NFL superstar Steve McNair -- who was found shot to death next to the body of his girlfriend -- had promised her he would get a divorce, her sister has revealed. But there's no known record of the former Tennessee Titan filing for a divorce from his wife, Mechelle. The quarterback was shot twice in the head and twice in the chest, an autopsy showed, and his death has formally been ruled a homicide. His girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, had a single gunshot wound to her head.
McNair, 36, had vowed to Kazemi, 20, that his marriage "was going to be finished, the whole divorce was going to be done, two weeks from yesterday," her sister, Sepideh Salmani, told The Tennessean newspaper. Cops yesterday described evidence supporting the theory of a murder-suicide with Kazemi as the killer -- but police refused to rule out other theories about the bloody scene at the Nashville love-shack condo McNair rented with a pal.
The autopsy showed McNair, whose body was found on a sofa Saturday afternoon, was shot four times with a semiautomatic pistol, said police spokesman Don Aaron.
Source
I remember the first time I saw Steve McNair play. He led his Alcorn State team to the I-AA playoffs where they faced the Youngstown State Penguins. His team kept it close for awhile, but it eventually lost to a very good YSU squad. As a kid growing up in the South, I looked up to McNair because he overcame so many obstacles to gain national recognition. McNair grew up poor and attended a small historically Black institution. Nevertheless, he always gave 100 percent when he was on the field and he played lots of games against doctor's orders. His competitive spirit prompted him to do anything, within the rules, to get the job done. You have to admire a man who demonstrates that level of dedication to his craft.
My heart dropped when I heard about his violent death. I heard the news while I was watching television with my little brothers. They are too young to understand the gravity of McNair's passing, but I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was going to write about his death sooner, but I didn't want to post anything until all the facts came out. Sadly, it appears that my worst assumptions are true. Like many professional athletes, McNair had a young mistress. McNair and his wife may have had an "understanding", but that information hasn't been released to the public. McNair's actions were wrong, but he didn't deserve to die.
"Love Don't Love Nobody" by The Spinners sets the mood for this story. Love is and will always be indiscriminate. It can make you feel invincible one day and suicidal the next. My heart goes out to McNair's wife, his four sons, and the family of his mistress.
Will come and go
You reach for love
But life won't let ya know
That in the end
You'll still be lovin her
But then shes gone
You're all alone

Chris Brown Gets A Slap on the Wrist
Chris Brown pleaded guilty yesterday to felony assault on pop star Rihanna. Brown, 20, entered the plea before a preliminary hearing was scheduled to start in Los Angeles. After he left the courtroom, Rihanna, 21, entered and was addressed by Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg, who explained to the singer that she had issued a stay-away order. Rihanna had not been seeking the order, but the judge imposed one requiring that Brown and Rihanna stay at least 50 yards from each other, except at industry events, when the distance is reduced to 10 yards.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, said the plea deal includes five years of supervised probation and six months of community labor. Brown will be formally sentenced Aug. 5.
Source
Michael Vick served almost two years in prison for facilitating a dog fighting ring. Dante Stallworth was sentenced to 30 days in jail, 1,000 hours of community service, 2 years of house arrest, and 8 years probation for killing someone while driving drunk. What do these two cases have to do with Chris Brown? The aforementioned cases show that there is no consistency in the American justice system. Law books are thick and detailed as hell, yet the laws on their pages are filled with loopholes. Unfortunately, public perception and money seem to determine the guilt or innocence of the accused.
I don't know why Chris Brown beat Rihanna so badly, but I do know that hitting a woman is inexcusable. I can play Devil's advocate. He may have been defending himself from her attacks. Nevertheless, he could have deflected her attacks and quelled the situation without making her face swell. Domestic violence is a serious problem across the globe. The laws on the books need to be strengthened so that those found guilty of domestic violence will receive harsher punishments.
Ghostface wrote a song called "Message from Ghostface" a few months ago in response to the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation. It's powerful music that I think you should hear.
I can see it in your face you been hurt mad times
And fell in love on the block and couldn't read the signs
In the beginning was all good, he sexed you right
Held you close in the bed real tight

The Bryants Are Going To Court

Kobe Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, are counter-suing their former maid, according to court documents. The Bryants are suing Maria Jimenez, 48, for breach of contract, breach of covenant of good faith and fair dealing. What the Bryant's are really concerned about is the confidentiality agreement they say Jimenez signed when she was hired in 2007. That agreement prevents her from talking to the press and others.
Jimenez sued the Byrants in March, claiming harassment and verbal abuse by Vanessa Bryant. According to the original lawsuit, Jimenez worked at the Bryant home six days a week, for 10-12 hours a day, from September 2007 to March 22, 2008, handling a variety of tasks that included housecleaning, laundry and cleaning up after the couple's children.
Jimenez claims the final straw was when Vanessa screamed at her for putting an expensive blouse in the washing machine, then demanded that she put her hand in a bag of dog feces to retrieve the price tag for the garment.
Source
Before I start giving my thoughts on this story, it should be noted that I am not a Kobe fan. Kobe IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE as good as His Airness. Kobe has three rings because he was lucky enough to play with Shaunie's husband. Furthermore, I dislike the Lakers as a staff, a record label, and as a motherf***ing crew...RIP Tupac.
I don't know much about Vanessa Bryant. In my eyes, the only notable thing she has done is forgive her narcissistic husband for cheating on her. I really hope she wasn't treating her maid in a disrespectful manner. However, it appears there may be some truth to the maid's accusations. If Ms. Jimenez, has her paperwork in order, she should be able to get a nice piece of change from the Bryants. Unlike Kobe, Vannessa can't drop 81 on the Raptors and make people forget all about her personal life.
Kobe recorded a song with Brian McKnight back in the days. Mr. Bryant doesn't spit any hot fire, but his verse was better than I expected.
Burn so sweet, blood boils when you speak
Makes me weak but I refuse to weep
Yet when I sleep I feel tears tricklin down my cheek
Stay strong, pride telling me move on
My hearts fightin me, forcin me to hold on
Yours forever, fell for you beyond measure
Pure as ever, fazed by sins of treasure

You Gotta Blame It On Somethin'
An Independence, Missouri woman said her husband abandoned his family before the war and when he came back, he got a new wife and baby and a new life. Marcella Rivera found out about her husband William Rivera’s possible bigamy in an unusual way. Her mother saw him on a Valentine's Day television special last year, marrying another woman. Rivera said she was floored, because he was still married to her.
Rivera found out Friday that the criminal bigamy charges against her husband were dropped. She said his attorney stated that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition he suffered after his military tour in Iraq. Rivera said he didn't remember still being married to her and thought they were divorced.
"There are real soldiers suffering from PTSD and he's using that as a crutch," said Marcella Rivera.
Source
Jamie Foxx blames it on the alcohol. Milli Vanilli blamed it on the rain. William Rivera blames it on his PTSD. PTSD is no laughing matter, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that this guy is exploiting his condition. Ms. Rivera mentioned that they were already considering a divorce. Will Rivera probably had second thoughts about the reconciliation and decided that bigamy was his best option. The cynical side of me is furious that this guy left his four children without a father. Since it's Friday, I am going to assume the best and keep this post light hearted. Enjoy the Rob and Fab...
Blame it on the stars that did shine at night
Whatever you do don't put the blame on you
Blame it on the rain yeah yeah
You can blame it on the rain

The Word vs. The Woman

"I think it's a debate that's going on in our society, and now I've become kind of a poster boy for it. But I don't want to be that. I believe that celibacy is good, and that it's a good commitment to God," Cutie said.
Cutié was removed last week as head of the Miami archdiocese's international radio network and as head of his parish after the Spanish-language magazine TVnotas ran photos of Cutié embracing a woman at a bar and at a beach. Cutié headed the archdiocese's Radio Paz and Radio Peace broadcasts, heard throughout the
Source
This has to be a difficult situation for Rev. Cutie. The priesthood and the woman he loves are both worthy of a lifetime commitment. It's unfortunate that he can only choose one. I don't think that his love life is adversely affecting his ability to help his parishioners. Honestly, I am surprised that he has been able to resist temptation this long. He looks like Jesse Palmer and he lives in city with lots of talent. I am sure his money, popularity, and approach to life have women flocking to him like bees to honey. The good Reverend was bound to get caught. Nowadays, websites and gossip publications pay paparazzi top dollar to catch celebrities slipping.
I love the Lord with all my heart, but I would be hard pressed to take a vow of celibacy. Rev. Cutie says that he has never had sex with the woman he is dating. If he is telling the truth, he has the patience of Job and the willpower of DeShaun Foster in the 2004 NFC Championship. I think vows of celibacy can only be violated by coitus. Consequently, he is free to do "everything else." I'll let you define the euphemism I just put in quotations. Cue "Creep Inn" by Ideal...
Meet me at the creep inn
I got what you're seeking
We could start creepin'
Just jump in your ride girl
I'll be there on time

The Smiths + 1
Will Smith's mantelpiece must be laden with accolades for his acting and musical achievements. On Wednesday, though, the 40-year-old's efforts away from the entertainment scene were recognised when he was presented with a humanitarian award. And no-one was prouder than the assembled members of his family.
Jada, the actor's wife of 11 years, added: "Will often gets honoured for the great talent he is, and it's just fantastic to see him being honoured for the great man that he is."
The actor's Hancock co-star Charlize Theron - on hand to present the Fresh Prince with his gong - also had some kind words to share about her pal. "I've never met anybody like Will," revealed the Oscar-winning beauty. "I've never met anybody who has the effect he has on people."
Source
Will Smith's gradual accumulation of talent has always befuddled me. Dude went from being a marginal rapper, to a marginal actor, to one of Hollywood's biggest box office draws. I know that's an oversimplification of his career, but it's how I've always seen it. "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" is one of my favorite television shows of all time. I thought Smith did a solid job on that show, but he was essentially playing himself. His name on the show was "Will" for Christ's sake. Today, Smith is one of the few actors who can effectively play a range of different characters. His range is almost diverse as Flipper Purify's. Anyway, I like the fact that Smith continues to contribute time and money to worthy causes. He deserves the humanitarian award he received.
Although I admire Will Smith, my admiration for him did not inspire me to right this blog entry. My jaw dropped when I saw Charlize Theron smiling IN A SMITH FAMILY PHOTO. I cannot believe Jada allowed that nonsense to happen. Theron's presense in that picture leads me to believe that Jada and Will actually have an "open" relationship. I always thought that rumor was fueled by heresay and celebrity gossip columnists. When Smith and Theron finished filiming Hancock, they flirted openly at a number of promotional events. I thought Jada would have checked Theron by now, but apparently she is cool with her husband's flirting. John Edwards needs to talk to Will Smith about how to have an affair and get away with it.
In 1995, Mokenstef released a song called "He's Mine" from the perspective of a disgruntled girlfriend. The R&B trio sang to the "other woman" that she would always be #2. I think most women feel like Mokenstef. Will Smith has it made...
But he's thinkin about me,
So baby think about another lover
And go find another brother
I know he's my man
He's all in my hands
If feels good when he calls my name
Don't you wish you had the same

C'mon John...
Federal investigators are sifting through the records of money that helped John Edwards' presidential campaign to determine if any was used to keep quiet his affair with Rielle Hunter. Edwards, a Democrat and former U.S. senator, acknowledged the investigation to The News & Observer.
“I am confident that no funds from my campaign were used improperly,” Edwards said in a statement. “However, I know that it is the role of government to ensure that this is true. We have made available to the United States both the people and the information necessary to help them get the issue resolved efficiently and in a timely matter. We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of those involved and look forward to a conclusion.”
Edwards declined to discuss the matter. A review of Edwards' campaign money will turn up a cluster of nonprofits, some not subject to the same rules of transparency as official campaign organizations.
Source
John Edwards needs to get his head in the game. His wife is about to release a memoir that touches on his infidelity and the Feds are digging through his financial records. I don't know what Edwards does on a daily basis, but he needs to temporarily put his regular routine aside. If he isn't more proactive about putting out these fires, he will fall into political oblivion. I understand why this picture is a faint memory in the consciousness of many Americans. There aren't too many things worse than cheating on your wife when she is battling cancer. John Edwards has a lot to offer the Democratic Party and America as a whole. It would be a shame to see his potential contributions go to waste because of his infidelity.
I read that it will be hard to prove that Edwards used his campaign money to cover up his affair. The probe is probably a Republican ploy designed to ruin his political career. Dude needs to break out those dimples the American public fell in love with and make sure that tactic doesn't work. "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me" by Teddy Pendergrass has probably never been more applicable to any story in recent memory.
Maybe then, maybe then you'd still be mine
Oh and only if I had been just a little more kind to you
There'd be no need for this man to be crying
The whole town's laughing at me
Silly fool, how'd you lose such a good friend

Craig Might Be In Trouble

The founder of Craigslist does not plan to close the "erotic services" section of the website despite criticism that has intensified after a medical student was accused of killing a Boston masseuse who advertised there. Craig Newmark contends his site already allows users to flag inappropriate material they believe should be removed. "Sometimes a bad guy of some sort tries to pull a fast one on our site," he said in an interview that aired Friday night on ABC News. "We don't want it there, it's wrong, and that's why we have the help of the general community and the law enforcement community getting rid of things like that." Newmark's comments defied a request by Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who asked Craigslist to immediately eliminate photographs in the "erotic services" section, hire staff to screen images and ads that violate the site's terms of service and fine users who violate those terms.
Source
Craig and his list are catching a lot of heat these days. The Craigslist killer story seems to be affecting people on a personal level. Hundreds of murders happen everyday and most of them don't get any media coverage. This story is more compelling than others because the murderer took an unconventional path to get to his victim. People use Craigslist everyday to search for apartments, sell furniture, find graphic designers, and a host of other things. I'm pretty sure that the majority of these people do not think about the safety risks associated with online transactions. Nowadays, one really cannot afford to be that care free. The young lady who was murdered may have known these risks and its possible that she tried her best to fight off her killer. Even if she was an unsuspecting victim, her death is really a tragedy.
The people that want Craig to eliminate the "erotic services" section mean well, but their anger is misguided. I think the website is doing a relatively good job of thwarting criminals. If the "erotic services" section is removed, those who break the law will find another way to get to their victims. The stigma attached to erotic services probably contributes to the public's outrage. People opposed to those services need to get over themselves. We all have to do what we have to do to get by these days. This story reminded me of Devin the Dude's "Do What You Wanna Do". Craig can run his site however he wants and people have the right to complain about it.
Hallelujah can tell this
Because shit to each's own and each owns voice

This Is Going To Get Ugly
There unsealed documents in the divorce case of Governor Jim Gibbons and first lady Dawn Gibbons reveal a back-and-forth of accusations of infidelity on the part of the governor and aggressiveness on the part of the first lady. Dawn Gibbons, through her lawyers, charge that the governor's claim that they needed a divorce because they were "incompatible" were bogus, and that the real reason he was seeking a divorce was because he was seeing a former Playboy model and another woman. The governor has insisted both women were just friends. The couple had been married since 1986. Dawn Gibbons identified one of the women in the documents as Kathy Karrasch, who over several weeks in 2007 received more than 860 text messages from the governor on his state cell phone. The governor publicly apologized last year and reimbursed the state $130. He denied the messages were "love notes." The governor, through his lawyer, said that the first lady was aggressive and that is why he wanted her to move out of the Governor's mansion. The governor went on to say he was concerned that the first lady would make an unfounded claim of domestic violence against him if they stayed in the same living quarters.
Source
This couple has been married for over 20 years. My naive inner child believes that adults can have amicable divorces. I am pretty sure Ms. Gibbons is going to get a huge settlement and the good governor will try to downplay the entire fiasco. I don't know if the infidelity charges levied against the governor are true. I do know, however, that he is an idiot for sending that many text messages to a woman that is not his wife. He is even more idiotic for sending and receiving those messages on his work phone. You would think he would have given each of his alleged mistresses a private line to reach him. The governor already has a lot on his plate. I am sure he wants to get the issues surrounding his personal life out of the press. I guess people get a false sense of security when they have money and power. If Dawn Gibbons has half the evidence she says she has to prove her allegations, its a wrap for the governor. She is clearly, in Chante Moore's words, "Bitter".
Remember the long phone calls at night
You used to say the sweetest things
But today my phone rings and I wish
That you would just stop talking

It Takes Two
Had she been born a generation earlier, Kim Hoffman might have had a shotgun wedding. As it turned out, she and Steve Miller took the time to plan their dream nuptials -- outdoors, on an organic farm, and with their 10-month-old daughter in tow. Along with magazine-cover grabbers like Angelina Jolie and Bristol Palin, Hoffman, today a 39-year-old mother of three, is part of a now record-breaking trend of women who give birth outside of wedlock. Nearly 40 percent of babies born in the United States in 2007 were delivered by unwed mothers, according to data released last month by the National Center for Health Statistics. The 1.7 million out-of-wedlock births, of 4.3 million total births, marked a more than 25 percent jump from five years before. Statistics such as these, which include for the second year in a row a bump in teen pregnancies, after a 14-year decline, leave Sarah Brown concerned. She worries about the children born to unwed parents -- about the disadvantages they often face, including increased likelihood of poverty and greater high school dropout rates.

There are entirely too many children growing up in single parent homes. I know a number of people who grew up in single parent homes and they had it rough. Luckily, these people were raised by strong hardworking women who sacrificed a lot so that their kids could have what they needed. It disgusts me when I see men and women who take parenthood lightly. Raising a child is one of the most important things you can ever do. Granted, a child can have a loving and fulfilling upbringing in a single parent home. Statistics have shown, however, that the likelihood of that happening is minimal.
There are a few caveats to my stance on this issue. I don't think a couple should stay together if their relationship is abusive or stagnant. A child should not grow up in an environment where the parents clearly don't like each other. I understand that some people are single parents because of untimely deaths. My heart goes out to those people and their families. I also understand that there are single people who adopt children. I think adopting a child is a beautiful thing. I take issue with the people who choose to be single parents because they are selfish and those who regularly have unprotected sex. Honestly, I don't care if a couple is married. I just want both parents to be actively involved in their child's life. Pink's "Family Portrait" details her experience in a broken home. The message is powerful...
I can't stand the sound
Your pain is painful
And it's tearin' me down
I hear glasses breakin'
As I sit up in my bed
I told Dad you didn't mean
Those nasty things you said

You Too Fine To Be Doing This...

Montgomery County (Maryland) police said a former Miss Maryland is facing drug charges along with her boyfriend after a raid found drugs, ammunition and cash in their Germantown, MD apartment. Police say Tia Shorts, who was crowned Miss Maryland USA in 2004, and her boyfriend, Joey King, were charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, and possession of marijuana. . King also faces a firearms charge. Shorts was released in lieu of $10,000 bail.

I wholeheartedly believe that the average person LOVES to read stories like this. Misery loves company and nothing makes miserable people more happy than seeing someone fall from grace. Tia Shorts is a beautiful sister who had a very promising future. I have absolutely no idea how she got herself into this situation, but I'm pretty sure it's because she felt she didn't have any other options. It's amazing how someone's fortunes can change in only five years. Jay-Z's "Fallin", which appeared on his American Gangster album, fits this situation.
I know I shouldnt've did that
I know its gon' come right back
I know its gon' destroy everything I made
Its probably gon' get ya boy sent away
But this game I play, ain't no way to fix it Its inevitable that I'm...
