C'mon John...

Federal investigators are sifting through the records of money that helped John Edwards' presidential campaign to determine if any was used to keep quiet his affair with Rielle Hunter. Edwards, a Democrat and former U.S. senator, acknowledged the investigation to The News & Observer.

“I am confident that no funds from my campaign were used improperly,” Edwards said in a statement. “However, I know that it is the role of government to ensure that this is true. We have made available to the United States both the people and the information necessary to help them get the issue resolved efficiently and in a timely matter. We appreciate the diligence and professionalism of those involved and look forward to a conclusion.”

Edwards declined to discuss the matter. A review of Edwards' campaign money will turn up a cluster of nonprofits, some not subject to the same rules of transparency as official campaign organizations.

John Edwards needs to get his head in the game. His wife is about to release a memoir that touches on his infidelity and the Feds are digging through his financial records. I don't know what Edwards does on a daily basis, but he needs to temporarily put his regular routine aside. If he isn't more proactive about putting out these fires, he will fall into political oblivion. I understand why this picture is a faint memory in the consciousness of many Americans. There aren't too many things worse than cheating on your wife when she is battling cancer. John Edwards has a lot to offer the Democratic Party and America as a whole. It would be a shame to see his potential contributions go to waste because of his infidelity.

I read that it will be hard to prove that Edwards used his campaign money to cover up his affair. The probe is probably a Republican ploy designed to ruin his political career. Dude needs to break out those dimples the American public fell in love with and make sure that tactic doesn't work. "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me" by Teddy Pendergrass has probably never been more applicable to any story in recent memory.

Maybe if I had spent more time with you
Maybe then, maybe then you'd still be mine
Oh and only if I had been just a little more kind to you
There'd be no need for this man to be crying
The whole town's laughing at me
Silly fool, how'd you lose such a good friend
