Sayōnara Sarah

I definitely didn't see this resignation coming. I thought she was seriously considering a run for the Presidency in 2012. I know that she can still run for President, but she is less likely to win the nomination after this resignation. America is a very forgiving country at times, but it doesn't look kindly upon quitters. George Bush realized he was in over his head during his second term, but he rode it out anyway. His administration left the country in shambles, but at least he didn't quit. Anyway, I think it's very ironic that Palin said her resignation would allow her to have a greater impact on our country. This is the same person who ridiculed President Obama for being a community organizer. The same person who scoffed as his accomplishments as a non-elected official and said he was unfit to lead. Her about-face on this matter is a classic example of the fact that politicians will say anything to get your vote.

The clip above is pretty damn hilarious in my opinion. I think it's a nice change of pace from the articles that I usually post. Palin is a very polarizing figure, even within her party. Some people are telling her good riddance, while others are playing "Sara Smile" in hopes that she will return.

If you feel like leaving
You know you can go

But why don't you stay until tomorrow
If you want to be free
You know, all you got to do is say so

And when you feel cold, I'll warm you
And when you feel you can't go on
I'll come and hold you

Governor Sanford's Indecent Proposal

There has been more embarrassment for Mark Sanford, the Republican governor of South Carolina, whose affair with an Argentine journalist has derailed his presidential ambitions and threatens to ruin his political career.

Sanford’s wife, Jenny, revealed that she had learnt of the affair earlier this year when she discovered a letter the governor had written to his lover, since identified as Maria Belen Chapur, a former television producer now living in Buenos Aires.

Sanford said she had told her husband to end the affair but he asked permission to travel to Argentina to talk to the woman face-to-face. “I said absolutely not,” his wife said. “It’s one thing to forgive adultery. It’s another to condone it.”

The good times keep rolling for Governor Sanford. I thought his 15 minutes of fame were over when I wrote about his refusal to accept stimulus funds on his state's behalf. Thankfully, he has shown his true colors over the last few weeks. His "hike in the Appalachian mountains" magically turned into a long weekend with his Argentinian mistress. Sanford put on an Oscar winning performance when he admitted to his infidelity. If his actions hadn't been so publicly self-serving in the past, I probably would have believed he was contrite. The icing on the cake came when his wife disclosed that he asked her permission to see his mistress. Who does that? Did he honestly think she would say "Of course Mark! Call me when you arrive in Argentina." Mark Sanford has a huge set of balls to pose that question to his wife.

I feel bad for the Sanford kids. He has 4 young sons who have to hear about their father's infidelity wherever they go. At times, children can be more evil than adults. I hope the Sanford sons aren't catching too much hell at school. Fantasia Barrino, High Point, NC's own, has a song called "Free Yourself" that goes well with Ms. Sanford feelings towards her husband.

Baby you don't pay no mind
You act like you don't love me no more
Maybe you need space or some time
Your attitude is unpredictable
And I don't want to make you unhappy
If you're not happy then you're free to go on
Cause I don't want you stayin' around
If I make you so miserable

Blagojevich Needs To Go Somewhere

Governor Blagojevich, the ousted governor of Illnois who had for months told anyone who would listen that he has done nothing corrupt, finally got to say as much to a judge. He plead not guilty to 16 federal criminal counts, including racketeering conspiracy, a broad scheme that prosecutors say included efforts by Mr. Blagojevich to receive money in exchange for an appointment to President Obama’s former Senate seat. Mr. Blagojevich, a lawyer who has spent most of his career in politics, said little in court, but told reporters who greeted him outside that his legal strategy was, simply, “the truth.” After his court appearance, he and his sole lawyer, Sheldon Sorosky, who is trying to reach an agreement with prosecutors that would allow the former governor to tap his campaign fund for the sake of adding to his defense team, seemed to wander around the lobby looking for a way to leave without meeting dozens of television cameras waiting outside.

If Blagojevich was a fictional character, he would be hilarious. Everything from his hair to the way he carries himself is comical. Unfortunately, he is a real person and the underhanded things he is accused of doing hurt people in the Land of Lincoln. His dealings with the press make him comparable to Clay Davis. Blagojevich's potential reality show appearance is just icing on the cake. The fact that he is even considering the possibility of being a cast member proves that he thinks he is beyond reproach. I'm too cynical to believe that this dude will serve any "real" time in prison. He will manage to scrap together some funds for a strong defense team. This defense team will ultimately get him a relatively light sentence. The justice system in our country really needs a complete overhaul. Money seems to be the variable that determines the guilt or innocence of the accused. Money can't buy you the most important things in life. Freedom is one of those things. There are too many people doing anything "For The Love of Money."

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can't even walk the street
Because they never know who in the world they're gonna beat

Politics vs. The People

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford backed down from his standoff with the White House over stimulus funding, becoming the last governor in the nation to officially announce that his state will accept economic recovery aid. Sanford, viewed as a potential presidential contender, has been the most outspoken of a handful of GOP governors who have criticized Obama's plan. He repeatedly said he would reject stimulus money because he did not think the nation should go into debt to fund recovery efforts. Despite his reversal, Sanford said he will not draw from a $700 million portion of the stimulus for education and law enforcement unless he reaches a deal with South Carolina's Republican-controlled legislature to help pay off some of the state government's debt. South Carolina has an 11 percent unemployment rate, the nation's highest outside of Michigan, and will receive about $8 billion in aid, with about $2.8 billion going directly to the state government.

Governor Sanford REALLY needs to get over himself. The Palmetto State has the second highest unemployment rate in the country and it needs all the help it can get. The Governor seems to be placing his Presidential ambitions ahead of the well being of the people in his state. He is even pushing his weak argument on television because he knows the court of public opinion is ruling against him. I have family members and friends in South Carolina that have been adversely affected by the state's economic downturn. I pray that the good governor will reconsider his stance and accept all the stimulus money his state is being offered. Billy Paul had the right idea in 1975 when he sang "Let the Dollar Circulate".

Inflation getting higher
Makes it hard on the buyer
Unemployment on the rise
Gasoline stations filled with lines
Rent being paid late
Pleaaasseeee
Let the dollar circulate
Let the dollar circulate

Respect Sarah Palin's Fresh

An amended Republican National Committee (RNC) Federal Election Commission report shows that the RNC paid about $23,000 for clothing in the three weeks before and after Election Day -- which is actually $7,000 less than previously reported. That new report brings the total cost of Palin's clothing paid by the RNC down to about $173,000 and also makes it easier to spot clothing purchases that had previously gone undetected. For example, a $289 payment to high-end shoemaker Stuart Weitzman, which had been described as “retail” and “accessories,” became “candidate clothing.” The RNC did not respond to requests for comment about the amended report or the fate of the clothes, which were to have been donated to charity.

Sarah Palin had absolutely no chance of becoming Vice President of the United States and she knew it. She used McCain's Presidential campaign to raise her national profile and to get a $173,000 wardrobe. I don't agree with her politics, but I can't fault her for being an opportunist. Sarah and Bristol, when she loses her baby weight, will have the freshest wardrobe in the Land of the Midnight Sun. Kinfolk Kia Shine, a "swag rapper" from Memphis, would be proud of Ms. Palin's fashion sense.

S.Dots, Reeboks, shell toes, icey whites
Old school Jordans man
Which one I'm gon' rock tonight
Bathing Apes, Polo boots, or my Louis loafers
By the time I make my mind up
Look man the club gon' be over
