Blagojevich Needs To Go Somewhere

Governor Blagojevich, the ousted governor of Illnois who had for months told anyone who would listen that he has done nothing corrupt, finally got to say as much to a judge. He plead not guilty to 16 federal criminal counts, including racketeering conspiracy, a broad scheme that prosecutors say included efforts by Mr. Blagojevich to receive money in exchange for an appointment to President Obama’s former Senate seat. Mr. Blagojevich, a lawyer who has spent most of his career in politics, said little in court, but told reporters who greeted him outside that his legal strategy was, simply, “the truth.” After his court appearance, he and his sole lawyer, Sheldon Sorosky, who is trying to reach an agreement with prosecutors that would allow the former governor to tap his campaign fund for the sake of adding to his defense team, seemed to wander around the lobby looking for a way to leave without meeting dozens of television cameras waiting outside.

If Blagojevich was a fictional character, he would be hilarious. Everything from his hair to the way he carries himself is comical. Unfortunately, he is a real person and the underhanded things he is accused of doing hurt people in the Land of Lincoln. His dealings with the press make him comparable to Clay Davis. Blagojevich's potential reality show appearance is just icing on the cake. The fact that he is even considering the possibility of being a cast member proves that he thinks he is beyond reproach. I'm too cynical to believe that this dude will serve any "real" time in prison. He will manage to scrap together some funds for a strong defense team. This defense team will ultimately get him a relatively light sentence. The justice system in our country really needs a complete overhaul. Money seems to be the variable that determines the guilt or innocence of the accused. Money can't buy you the most important things in life. Freedom is one of those things. There are too many people doing anything "For The Love of Money."

For the love of money
People will steal from their mother
For the love of money
People will rob their own brother
For the love of money
People can't even walk the street
Because they never know who in the world they're gonna beat
