The logo change is new, but the MTV programmers decided years ago that they would move away from the network's initial purpose. MTV was founded in an effort to promote well known and underground artists from a variety of genres. The network helped catapult the importance of the music video and it gave musicians a platform to perform their craft. Nowadays, this pioneering station is more likely to show two drunk guys fighting over a bowl of cereal than actual musical programming.
MTV2 is following in MTV's wake by showing re-runs of the same crap MTV puts out there. I hope another network is created to give aspiring musicians and music lovers a chance to hear and see what they love.
